Cold Chain Logistics Market Chinese Industry Research Report 2014-2018

Cold chain logistics refers to the temperature-controlled system with an uninterrupted series of storage and distribution activities which maintain a given temperature range. It is used to help extend and ensure the shelf life of products such as fresh agricultural produce, seafood, frozen food, photographic film, chemicals and pharmaceutical drugs.

Primary agricultural produce such as fruit and vegetables rots easily, which increases the operational cost of fresh food retailers, such as supermarkets and stores. The shelf life of products can be more than doubled in a cold chain logistics system that functions well. The loss of fresh food retailers will decrease by 30%-50% if the shelf life of perishable food like fruit and vegetables is prolonged from 1 day to 3 days.

Food spoilage is the major cause of food safety issues and waste of resources. Increasing concern about food safety stimulates the development of cold chain logistics, especially for meat, fruit, vegetables, aquatic products and dairy products. Demand for the cold chain logistics in transport of vegetables, fruit, meat and other processed products increases as Chinese people’s life improves.

In 2013, the production volume of meat exceeded 80 million tons while that of vegetables surpassed 0.7 billion tons. The production volume of fruit, dairy products and aquatic products exceeded 0.15 billion tons, 20 million tons and 60 million tons respectively. In addition, a large volume of meat products and frozen food is produced in China. The temperature fluctuation in refrigerated transport is one of the major reasons for the decline in food quality. Cold chain logistics can keep perishable food fresh in transport.

By the end of 2013, the total capacity of cold storages barely reached 20 million cubic meters with less than 40,000 refrigerated vans, far behind developed countries and certain developing countries like India in consideration of the large population.

As a high-end sub-industry of the logistics industry, cold chain logistics will attract much investment in the coming years. The e-commerce enterprises of fresh food spring up as e-commerce develops in China, which remarkably promotes the development of cold chain logistics. The year of 2013 was an important year in the development of fresh food e-commence in China. Several e-commence enterprises set foot in the fresh food field, including certain large-scale e-commerce enterprises like Tmall, JD and Amazon, certain logistics enterprises such as SFbest from SFExpress, and several professional e-commence enterprises for fresh food like Shanghai Yiguo E-commerce Co., Ltd. and TooToo Farm. According to CRI, the market size of fresh food e-commerce was approximately CNY 40-50 billion in China in 2013. The CAGR is estimated to exceed 100% in 2014-2018.

Few e-commerce enterprises of fresh food directly invest in equipment of cold chain logistics due to the high cost. However, rapid growth of the market stimulates the development of the distribution network of cold chain logistics. The home delivery service of e-commerce enterprises like JD and Tmall mostly depends on third-party enterprises of cold chain logistics due to lack mature storage and logistics distribution system. However, the trend for e-commerce enterprises is to establish self-operating cold chain logistics.

Cold chain logistics encompasses home delivery and the main line. The home delivery belongs to express delivery and less-than-truck-load logistics while the main line is related to management of assets supply chain and third-party logistics. The complexity of cold chain logistics results in high entry criteria of the industry. However, cold chain logistics will become the most popular sub-industry in logistics field in 2014-2018 due to the increasing demand and development potential.

The cold chain logistics industry is expected to develop rapidly as demand for commodities like food, medicine and cosmetics increases in China.

China Vitamin Market Research Report 2014-2017

China is also the world’s largest export base of vitamins, mainly vitamin C, vitamin E and pantothenic calcium. In 2013, China’s export volume of vitamin C and vitamin E accounted for 55.0% and 23.7% of total export volume over the same period. In addition, the proportions of D or DL-pantothenic acid (i.e. vitamin B3 or B5) have increased to 5.7%.

China is the world’s largest production base of vitamins, with vitamin C and vitamin E as its most important products, wherein vitamin C and related products account for more than 60% of its total output and vitamin E takes up about 30%. Since 2009, influenced by the sluggish external demand and declining prices, China’s output of vitamin products has been declining sharply. In 2013, the output of various types of vitamin products in China was about 201,000 tons, down 7.4% YoY.

Chinese vitamin producers fall into two types: large integrated pharmaceutical enterprises and professional vitamin producers. In 2009-2013, large integrated pharmaceutical enterprises such as North China Pharmaceutical Co.,Ltd and Northeast Pharmaceutical Group Co.,Ltd mostly had heavy burden historically and encountered operating difficulties and development obstacles, thus their ratio of R & D investment in total revenue was less than 3%; while professional vitamin producers like NHU, Kingdomway, and Brother Enterprises Holding kept higher gross margins of their products, with R & D investment generally accounting for more than 4% of revenue.

In recent years, the global and Chinese vitamin market has been exhibiting a monopolistic competition pattern. CSPC Pharmaceutical Group, North China Pharmaceutical, Northeast Pharmaceutical, Aland (Jiangsu) Nutraceutical, Shandong Luwei Pharmaceutical and other Chinese companies with production capacity of more than 15,000 tons, are the major suppliers in the global VC market. Zhejiang Medicine, NHU, and PKU Healthcare together shared about 50% of the global total capacity of VE. NHU, Zhejiang Medicine and Kingdomway three companies together accounted for 40%-50% of the global total capacity of VA.

Since the vitamin industry has high technical barriers, the existing major producers have already formed their own competitive advantages and the cost of quitting is high. So it is estimated that in 2014-2017, the monopolistic competition pattern in China vitamin industry will persist.

“China Vitamin Industry Report, 2014-2017″ provided by ResearchInChina covers the following:
·         China vitamin market supply and demand, import and export, competition pattern and development projections.
·         Development status, competition pattern, import and export, market prices of VC, VA, VB, VE products in China.
·         Operation, vitamin business and development prospects of 16 global and Chinese vitamin companies.
