Information Technology Market Q3 2013: Poland, Brazil, Hong Kong & Colombia at RnRMarketResearch.com

Poland Information Technology Report Q3 2013

Polish IT spending is forecast to increase to PLN28.8bn in 2013, up by 3.2%. This is a downgrade from the Q2 2013 update, based on a weaker economic outlook for Poland in 2013. Looking further ahead, we expect the market will record faster growth from 2014 as the economic environment becomes more supportive. Poland is expected to maintain its status as one of Central and Eastern Europe’s fastest-growing IT markets over the 2013-2017 forecast period, with CAGR of 6% 2013 to 2017. Key growth drivers within the IT market include demand for tablets and other mobile computing devices, the distribution of EU funds for ICT and information society-related initiatives, and rising real incomes in the later part of our forecast period. The potential growth of cloud computing services revenue also warrants a specific mention as enterprises look to utilise efficiencies and increase flexibility.

Headline Expenditure Projections

Computer Hardware Sales: PLN12.1bn in 2013 to PLN14.4bn in 2017, CAGR of 3.8% in local currency terms. First-time buyer opportunities remain, with household PC penetration expected to continue converging with Western Europe, while demand for personal devices such as tablets and hybrids/convertibles will be the fastest area of growth.

Hong Kong Information Technology Report Q3 2013

We forecast IT spending in Hong Kong will reach HKD45.3bn in 2013, growth of 6.8% in local currency terms. There was a small upgrade to our forecast in the Q3 2013 update on the basis of a brighter economic outlook and specifically the investment taking place in datacentres. There is, however, downside to this outlook, with a potential hard landing in China likely to severely disrupt Hong Kong’s economy and IT market. In the IT market, key growth trends include investment in datacentres as the city becomes a regional hub for cloud computing services, and the shifting composition of retail hardware spending as consumers move to tablets and hybrids/convertibles. Low-cost Android tablets and device innovation based on Windows 8 and Intel’s Haswell chip architecture will extend this trend. The key sector of the economy will continue to be Hong Kong’s large financial services industry, a target for cloud computing providers.

Headline Expenditure Projections

Computer Hardware Sales: HKD19.1bn in 2012 to HKD20.3bn in 2013, +6.1% in local currency terms. Our forecast is raised this quarter on the basis of ongoing investment in datacentres, while growth of the main component of hardware spending, the PC market, will be driven by demand for tablets, hybrids/ convertibles and ultrabooks.

Colombia Information Technology Report Q3 2013

We have a bright outlook for Colombia’s IT market over the medium term, forecasting CAGR of 11% 2013 to 2017 as total spending reaches COP9.2trn in the final year of our forecast. The rapidly developing IT market is driven by several factors including the supporting economic growth story, low PC penetration relative to income, expanding telecoms infrastructure and government ICT initiatives. Even though the consumption outlook has weakened since 2012 we expect Colombia to close the gap with its neighbours in terms of PC penetration over the medium term as devices become more affordable to the mass market. Meanwhile we expect increased enterprise adoption of software and services as companies modernise and become increasingly international in their outlook.

Headline Expenditure Projections:

Computer Hardware Sales: COP2.997trn in 2013 to COP4.361trn by 2017. Consumption growth combined with low PC penetration and declining cost of devices will boost sales over the medium term. Tablets are expected to be a growth area alongside low cost notebooks.

Brazil Information Technology Report Q3 2013

The weaker consumer outlook in Brazil resulted in a minor downward revision to our forecast in the Q3 2013 update; however, this should not obscure the strong underlying growth story for the IT market over the medium term. We now forecast Brazil IT market spending will reach BRL53.5bn in 2013, an increase of 9.6% from BRL48.8bn in 2012. Growth is being sustained by several trends, including a booming first-time buyer and upgrade/replacement market for PCs, strong demand for tablets (including procurements for education), enterprise and government modernisation and demand for cost savings to be delivered via cloud computing. Meanwhile, over the medium term, the IT market will benefit from Brazil’s hosting of the Olympic Games and FIFA World Cup, which is expected to drive billions of dollars of ITrelated spending.

Headline Expenditure Projections

Computer Hardware Sales: BRL20.7bn in 2012 to BRL22.2bn in 2013; +7.3% in local currency terms. Growth for 2013 has been downgraded on a weaker consumer outlook; however, sales growth will still be strong as a new range of lower priced tablets become available.
